How Onbiom checks MCP

MCP monitoring starts with a protocol exchange.

A web server answering HTTP is one signal. A usable MCP connection is another.

What is sent?

Onbiom sends initialize, notifications/initialized and tools/list to a configured HTTPS endpoint. It negotiates supported MCP versions and follows bounded tool-list pagination. This inventory check does not send tools/call.

What does latency mean?

Recorded total check time covers the connection and protocol exchange, including the server’s response work. Individual request timings and exact endpoint are visible in private check evidence. Internal LLM generation time cannot be separated from server response time.

What does availability mean?

Availability describes observed successful checks. Scheduled samples can miss short outages. Missing observations are not fabricated as healthy samples. Maintenance and manual pause stop checks; cadence and retained history depend on the plan.

Does a healthy connection prove the tool works?

No. For that, configure and approve a specific tool call, fixed arguments and expected output. Model review remains optional and advisory.
